Deciding on a T’ai-Chi Teacher
Go to several teachers, schools, or programs within the distance you are willing to travel. Ask yourself if the students are enjoying learning. Consider whether you like an atmosphere that is (a) competitive or noncompetitive and (b) formal (uniforms, bowing to teacher) or informal. Is there the possibility of substantially continuing your studies with that teacher, or will the program end with no possibility of continuing there? Did the teacher learn T’ai Chi from a master with a valid T’ai Chi lineage, or is the teacher specialized in other movement arts such as dance or Karate and simply exploiting the popularity of T’ai Chi to increase his/her revenue?
